Frozen Yooper hang, Porcupine Mtns. ?

I'm putting this out there to see if there would be interest in a group hang in the Porcupine Mtns., Western U.P. Michigan, mid to late February, all are welcome. Snowshoe/ski in maybe 2-4 miles, go off the deer yard trail, stay between Mtns. and Lake Superior. Huge hemlock trees to hang from, beautiful forest. Long straps would come in handy.
$14 per night for a group of 6, not sure if rec. passes are needed or not ($10 a vehicle). Leave no trace rules apply. Everyone would have to register at park headquarters, they want emergency contact, list of gear, etc. Weather for Sunday, Jan. 5th is a low of -16* wind 13mph. Sunday Jan 12th is a high of 29* with a low of 22*, wind 12mph. That gives you an idea of Yooper weather. There is no cell service in the area.
Travel time is approx. 5hrs from Minneapolis, 3hrs from Duluth, 4hrs from Green Bay, 15 minutes for me! I've snow shoed the trail, haven't gone off it but I would scout the area ahead of time.

    This is the trail head.

It's about an 11 hour drive from Detroit! The porkies are a great place, hiked there quite a few times. If it were closer I would consider it.

I would be interested but a long drive from Ludinton as well. Shogun, sr1355, lerms and I did the Mc Cormick Wilderness early last Feb. Got nailed by that big storm! Was a blast though. Have a vid on my youtube page.

Car pool! Drive faster! Stone, great job on the video, subbed. Bring Paul so I can thank him in person for the UQ. This trailhead is at the end of a highway (it goes further, but not plowed) and is next to a ski hill. There is an AmericInn a couple miles away, 5 bucks and change to use the pool, hottub, and sauna. Good way to thaw out before a road trip.

Argh, a Yooper hang less than one week after my company moves me downstate! You're killing me.

I took several trips through the Porkies last summer, it's a beautiful place to be.

Yeah that's some ugly country there. I googled it and there's steelhead rivers too. So yeah it would really suck.

Consider me interested! It's a beautiful area! Work will be the decoding factor for me. But throw me in the maybe category . would love to get out. Feeling a bit pent up.

I took a reconn hike today, hope to drum up some interest with more pix. I'd like to get at least 3 of us. The trail is packed, but when I went off trail my MSR snowshoes sunk about a foot, and when I crossed a couple small ravines, I was almost up to my knees. A pulk would be a challenge once off trail. I saw a couple deer getting away from me. What I didn't like is you can hear snowmobiles miles away. Nice quiet woods, then in the distance, "whaaaaaaaaa!" I'll put up with it, take the good with the bad.
