    Backyard hanging rig/best set-up

I just ordered some new hanging gear and want to get use to it in the backyard before I hit the trail. I have some trees but nothing ideal. Thinking of sinking a couple of 4x4 post in the ground. Whats the best height and distance for hanging different hammocks and tarp set ups. Are there some simple systems worth putting together. I don't need freestanding. Just something to test gear and catch some z's when the wife isn't looking. Any links to pictures or past projects would be much appreciated.

I would go with 6x6s, 4x4's have broken on other hangers.
How long is your hammock 9,10,11? add 3-4' to each end for a good distance.

It's 11foot but has ridge-line. So I guess I need around 17-18 feet. I'm thinking height should be 8 feet. That means I need 2 10foot 8x8's. I may do round just to give it that tree feel. I think it will be fun to test out gear and let my 3 1/2 yr. old little boy do some hanging as well. thanks for the input.

An 11' hammock is not 11' long its more like 110" to 112" long.
I like about 12" of tree strap off the pole to the toggle and 2-3 foot of whoopie.

I used 2, 4x4 ten feet long and put 3 1/2 feet in the ground. Hand picked the best in the pile. Spaced them 14 feet apart. I used my dutch straps with cinch buckle at first. Not a good idea because the straps were always stressed on the sharp corners at the same spot on the straps.. Solution. Purchased short climbing strap had a loop sewn use a beaner to an eye bolt thru the 4x4. I use a clark nx250. When not in use I hang it in a closet. Took my dutch straps coiled them and put them on the hangers. When I test hang in the yard I use the climbing strap and beaner. When I want to hang from trees just switch out the strap and ready to go.
