Love the idea. Now I can make up that tablecloth hammock I have been sitting on.

Very neat discovery. Look forward to the progression/evolution of this.

Good stuff Red! I like where this is going; I tried making a fake bridge hammock in the past similar to this.

I used a much longer piece of material (13-14 feet?), I folded and sewed similar to what you have on your hammock, used Amsteel for the side tendons and had a set of spreader bars.

I did two thing wrong that I remember: My fabric was too light and stretched terribly; and it was too complicated.

I like yours without the spreader bars and the way it's folded seems better as well. I think I am going to try this again using your pattern.

What I did like about the design was the semi-adjustable aspect of the design. I could tighten or loosen a side to get a little better fit. I have since started designing a two piece hammock based on this early fake-bridge design; but I have not sewn one up yet, just a few models lying about...

Thanks Rat. I too like the adjust-ability of the side tension. This has little to no calf ridge, there is still a ways to go...at least I think, I need to spend a night in it to see just how well it does. The way the end is folded is not too scientific, I just picked dimensions at random, based on what looked right vs. a calculated set of dimensions. When I first got in I was bummed cuz the sides had no support, then it hit me to add some ucr's and here we are. Might even be able to make the whole side bungee but that may not provide enough structure to hold up the edge.
    Good luck,

I really like this idea. If it is not too much trouble can you take a few pictures of the fold progression? maybe with a piece of paper or something like that. I would like to make sure i am picturing what you did the correct way.

After looking again, did you just do a single fold at each corner? If so then i have got it. Thank You.

When I get home I'll do a mock up with a towel or something.

Here we go. This towel represents the hammock, the black string is the center line and the yellow string represents the 6" line where the channel will be sewn to.

Next you can see the corner folded in but not to center (I did 6" off center). You will also note it is not on the yellow line, I put the corner 5" from the end so it would be well secured by the end channel stitching. The purple bits are the short side of the newly formed triangle that I sewed down at this point to keep things from moving around.

Next I folded over the top down to the 6" line and stitched. I stopped sewing at the point where you see the yellow string come out of the channel, IOW not all the way to the edges. I also put a bar tack at each end of the end channel.

Thats it, except for the side channels which I just measured 18" from the end (down the diagonal) folded over to form a 3/4" channel and sewed to w/in 18" of the of the other end...nutt'n fancy.
    Good luck,
