Like I tell my students... there are no dumb questions... just dumb people who ask them! All jokes aside....

How "down proof" is fleece? If one were to make this out of down?? I like the idea of HyperD on one side and maybe fleece on the other??

I would add fleece over the down prof material, or I've thought about making a pillow case with fleece on one side so I can wash it.

Oh I like that idea even better! I have different sized of the ThermaRest pillows that smash up really small. But I like the idea of a pillow case which is easy to wash.

Busted out one of these and started a second...easy enough even if the closure isn't pretty...works well too. I went with 3oz of fill, 4oz overall weight. I used leftover fabric from my Costco under quilt and some brown fleece we've had around for 6 or so yearsimage.jpgimage.jpg

Just a rectangle, but wanted to show the little triangle piece and the loop.

Shock cord up to the end so it stays put.
The triangle piece keeps the loop away from your head so you're not laying on it.
Wow, I really like that addition. Do you find it effective in keeping things from sliding around too much? Did you do it in response to problems you were having?

The shock cord solves the problem of your pillow falling behind you every time you lean up. The triangle solves the problem of laying on the loop/cord lock. The triangle makes a nice barrier between hair and hammock as well.

I like the idea of a cover to take off and wash, if you made it with the fleece on the outside of stuff sack (or really the inside of one side) you could always turn it inside out and have the fleece on the inside to protect it when in transit or storage.

If you made the backing of the fleece out of sil you probably wouldn't have to worry about losing loft over time from body oils.

Thanks, Red. An old thread and still a great one.

Made 3 pillows for Christmas and 3 more are on order. Made the pattern a little smaller to fit the hammock for the wife and daughter. They just loved the pillows.

Thanks again for the simplicity and the "bowtie" design you shared with us.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
