That's how I use it most of the time. I rig it with prussiks so I just pull my hiking poles and zip the line to close it up from underneath.

"We are the greatest bulldozers to walk erect. Will we ever permit Mother Nature–truly our mother–to do her thing, undisturbed and unmarred? Will we ever be content to play a passively observant role in the universe, and leave off this unceasing activity? I do not wish man in control of the universe. I wish nature in control, and man playing only his just role as one of its inhabitants."— Randy Morgensen, 1971
I really like that, it doesn't look like more room as the poles are outside, unlike a tent, but it does address my occasional problem of the poles rubbing the tarp when I have to pitch it in a less than optimal way.

If they were 2-4 inches longer would they bow enough not to touxh the ridgline? And would this be an improvement? I like what you hab
The pole doesn't bend much due to it's short length. A few more inches wouldnt' get much more bendability...what is needed is a thinner pole maybe...but these eastons are already about as small as they come
We should be selling a pole kit for this type mod in a few weeks by the way. Had to try one after seeing this thread and it's pretty cool I gotta admit
