    Fire Bans in Indiana

So far, 54 counties of the 92 are in fire bans,,as I was coming home from Sgt. Rocks hang,,saw a Forest Ranger, at a car camp site about 5 miles from home on West Fork of the White River at Williams Dam, writing tickets for campfires. And its going to get worse as they are not predicting much chance of rain over the next 8 days. We are starting to see alot of grass fires along highways spring up as well as I have heard of a couple of farmers already being paid by insurance companies for crop losses with them plowing corn and soybeans up this season. If your out there backpacking be careful as its a tinder box in this state with most of the wooded counties with trails, is under a fire ban. We have had less than 2/10s inch for June and this will put us 14inches below normal for the year at the end of this month. Take care.

Good luck... Seems like Texas has been behind on rainfall my whole life... It is literally a one match to start a million acre fire down here right now... It's not good...

Sounds like Indiana is where Florida was last year. I hope things manage to stay uncombusted up there.

For those of us in the back country, please make sure to keep an eye on your stoves and be careful about errant flames! All it takes is one second of inattention for things to go very wrong.

Yeah, I just put up a post about buying a fan for camping--I live in Chicago and it's been 90 degrees a bunch of days here. Very dry, too, even though it's been threatening rain. Not surprised about the bans. My wife has asked a couple of times why I haven't been out recently--'cause it's HOT that's why!--but thanks, babe, for asking... Hope things get better for you.
Somebody told me how frightening it was how much topsoil we are losing each year, but I told that story around the campfire and nobody got scared.

Wow 90 that's awful... It's 108 outside now, not bad in the shade though...
