Sorry to hear about your lose Red, it doesn’t bode well for any of us. Back when I was a kid, right after the Earth’s crust cooled, people would go off and leave fishing gear, lanterns, and lots of equipment there in camp and no one touched it. That was the ethic of the day. Things have changed.

Did you check with whoever runs the Park in case they were making a point about the Hammock?

I don't know why they left the tarp... I had strings everywhere so maybe it looked like it would have taken too much time. It's an unmanned state park, I stopped into a manned state park this morning just to give them a heads up but didn't really "file a report" or anything.

It is just sad to think that the bad behavior has gotten to the woods also.

I guess the same rules apply to the woods as in town.

Never leave anything un-attended, unless there is a wire attached, then make sure you are out of the danger zone to watch.

Yeah, I've had my share of stuff stolen while in cities but never in the woods. I slept with one eye open last night knowing my canoe was outside on my car and no way to lock it on there.

Ouch, I'm sorry to hear that, OP . It truly is a terrible feeling coming back to your campsite with everything gone, isn't it?

I once came back to my campsite with my tent completely gone when I had just run into town for some wood and ice. I was completely baffled considering there were other people around.

I really dont understand people... What would compel someone to just take someone else's stuff. It really upsets me...

At least I know there are other people, like the ones on this site that will do everything they can to actually help someone. You never even had to ask and everyone on here is offering to help you out. This really is a great community.

It's pretty amazing really, definitely feeling the love of the forum today.

My gear was somewhat non standard so if they may end up here asking for help... wouldn't that be something.

Very sorry to hear this..One of my fears as well.... Would have thought you would have been fine around that area.... Stealth camps sound better all the time..

There were a lot of ATV'ers about, and still some fishermen going down the river but no one else at the camp ground. If I hadn't needed to arrange a car spot down river I would have just put in and stealth camped.

Dude so sorry to hear of your woes. Its a total bummer but I believe in karma and good things happen to good people and well bad people I don't wish anything bad happens to them cause karma will take care of that.

Man,,that is some beautiful country up there as I have hacked around quite a bit there and the Au Sable,,sorry to hear that Red and especially at a State Park. I have always been uptight about leaving my hammocks and gear when car camping and now you put more fear into my leaving gear hanging including tarps..ouch! Once again,,sorry, It really takes some kind of a person to screw everything up for someone else.

Yeah, I never thought I'd wish there were more people at the campground, but if there had been just one other camper I bet it wouldn't have happened. I was really looking fwd to the river too. I was gonna hit the section out of Mio that is a National Scenic River too. I hope to give it another try soon.
