Glad you found bethandevans. Quite a page, with a great compilation of tests to failure, and solutions I hadn't seen before.

my C.A.M.P. USA NANO 23 carabiners don't weight more than a gram, and i dig that i can hook my boots, pack, or anyhting else that needs to be under my tarp into them and its up[ off the wet ground, safe and dry. plus, after setting up straps and whoopies, its nice to be able to just clip the hammock in and hang. i use soft shackles between my straps and whoopies, amsteel on amsteel glides really well, and makes adjusting the whoopies easier. IMHO not worth the weight reduction or price to replace the biners with the SS, even red's slick 'grappler', but it would definitely be worth replaceing your ounce carabiners with the camp usa nano 23. 6 bucks, 40 for a multi-color 6 pack.
