Ok, so an actor, who makes more money than all of us goes on this grand adventure... he talks about how difficult it is, slogging along... But it doesn't look like his spirits are ever down...

I for one, was impressesed at how quickly a non-camper picked up the knots... He pitched in pulling gear, set up his own camp... Not bad for a guy who lives part time in the penthouse suite at ritzy hotels...

I think he got it right at the end... left a lot of troubles in the jungle...

Finally watched it. And liked it

Didn't know (still don't) Ewan Mac Gregor.

La Moskitia (The Mosquito Coast), is a huge preservation area in Honduras and Nicaragua.

Not sure where he was but I made it up the Rio Platano in 2005. Great memories that watching the vid brought back more vividly.(http://dutchunlimited.com/english/ve...2003/honduras/ with a link to some pics too...

The knots Ray uses are pretty simple and easy to learn. Otherwise you learn the hard way

Ive always had tons of respect for Ray Mears. I like his approach and his attitude. I think he really shined in this vid by knowing exactly what to do to keep ewan's spirits up, put him to work! And it worked too. I thought Ewan did pretty good for not having an outdoors background. That rainforest looks pretty tough, kind of reminds me of a cypress swamp, minus the mountains.

Thanks for posting that vid! Having spent a bit of time in a rainforest myself I can attest that it ain't easy - no matter how skilled, or geared-up you are! I think the kid took on the challenge, and regardless of the normal ups-n-downs of a true jungle slog managed quite well.

I bought my Mora 510 from Ray Mears at his UK website (engraved on the blade, too!) Not sure they even make them any more. I filed a few jimping thumb notches into the spine of the blade for better control. Love the thing as a basic light Bushcraft knife!
