I think they filmed it in Spring 2006 or 2007, it's been out a while but only shown on UK TV a handful of times

I was surprised by the old and heavy gear they use. Stuff today is so much lighter and better for the jungle than what they were using. ie. US Army Ruck sacks, canteen cups, and their clothes, not very moisture wicking.

A WBBB with adjustable webbing and my Toxaway tarp with bungies all around was all that kept going through this head watching them set up. Then the water...no gravity bags?

As for LNT; one month after they left you probably could not find any trace of them left. The jungle recovers quick.

Actually the hammock is hanging from some narrow webbing (no straps though). I like Ray Mears videos (crazy good a friction fire lighting). Ewan MacGregor just acts like a big wuss the whole time. It would have been a better show if they had just left him back at the hotel (with Bear Grylls).

I kinda liked it gave an honest portrayal of your not-so-avid outdoors person. I've personally witnessed people go out FOR ONE NIGHT, cowboying it, boiling and purifying water with charcoal and bandana's, using your jacket for a blanket. I was surprised to see how quickly some people wither up. That being said, I thought Ewan did good trying to keep his head up and listening to Ray and Ray did a good job managing him, not allowing him to have time to wallow. That was probably the best part for me actually. Wilderness Psychology

I enjoyed it. For an inexperienced guy, McGregor did pretty well. I expect he did as well in the jungle as the average Internet forum reader.

I, for one, would be Olympic caliber sniveling at the end of day one. In fact, you would not even see me volunteering to go slog in the mud with poison snakes/spiders/etc at all. That's right...a big old comfort loving sissy and my hero is Shug who decided not to climb the prize mountain partly because there would be no hammock. A man's gotta know his limitations y'all.

Enjoyed watching it. Brings back the memories when we crossed a section of Sierra Madre Mountain range here in the Philippines all wet and muddy the whole time for 5 days. Instead of Inflatable boat we waterproofed our backpacks and put an empty gallon of plastic container inside to make it float, we grab on to it as we "shoot the rapids" Those are the days when we were wild and young, I dont think I want to do it again......'was scary but fun!
