    Cuben Tarp Decisions???

Looking at 4 season tarps, HG offers a centenary/cat cut type and Joe of Zpacks is straight cut or square with doors. At least, that is what the pics show.

Would I get more coverage with square cut? especially at the bottom edge of the tarp closest to the ground if need be?

Should I custom order as using a WL Snipe and have RL set at 108 with total length coverage needed at 114" inches. Both are 11' long RL and finished is 10' 10" giving me about 8" of coverage at each end of the hammock. What is your opinion on that? Will it be enough? I have used shorter tarps with 4 inches of coverage and really didn't care for it.

Has anybody used either Cuben 4 season tarps or a 11 RL cuben tarp with a WL 11' long hammock? How is the coverage with a RL attached to hammock?

    Thanks for all the imput.

I made my own cuben tarp with about 8-9 inches on both ends.
If I were to do it again, I would want a bit more room on both ends.

Also, I would like add a foot to each side so as be able to have it staked closer to the ground.

Those are my thoughts in hindsight.

My thinking as well,,go 12' long,,and wider,,bet that bumps the cost up considerably.

I use this tarp with my WL Snipe @ a 107" RL:

The coverage length at either end of the hammock works fine for me. If you went with 12' long RL that would be an expensive tarp.

I once asked Joe @ Z-packs about making his CF tarps laonger & wider. He didn't seem to mind doing the longer ridgeline for a small additional fee. However, he did not want to make the tarp wider as that would require much more time, materials, & money. This was almost a year ago that I had this discussion with him, maybe he has changed his mind. Wouldn't hurrt to ask.

After much experimentation I concluded that 11'x9' (10'10"x8'6") was plenty sufficient for my Blackbird. With a longer hammock like the WL I can imagine that at least a longer ridgeline would be mandatory.

Just got a email from Joe at Zpacks, and he has no problem with going a foot longer on his 4 season cuben tarp. At this time however, he doesn't want to make it wider as it takes alot more material, and time,,,,and right now he is smoked on time with all the orders he has..so that is the way I think I will go. I don't camp in snow that much and want the extra foot on length of RL and can stake it down to compensate for blowing rain storms whenever. Will be adequately covered in that respect. I think that is the way I am going, but will still have cottage makers answer any questions I have come up in the next couple of weeks before I pull the trigger..

I think 8-9" is fine. I used a 10' tarp with my blackbird before and it was fine.
