    Question Warbonnet vs HammockGear

Planning to purchase a 20 degree UQ and have narrowed it down to either a Warbonnet Yeti or HammockGear Phoenix. I'm not concerned about the additional cost of the Yeti, but I do wonder about the smaller dimensions of it. Is 40 X 46 sufficient coverage or is the few extra ounces worth the 45 X 52 dimensions in the Phoenix. I'm leaning toward the Phoenix but would really appreciate any input any of you may have.

    Thanks,

I recommend the Phoenix, others will recommend the Yeti. Both are quality products, and opinions will vary greatly based on your body's "sleeping temperature", size, and priorities. If you are going with a warmer quilt, I would take the trade off of weight for the extra coverage, especially on the length side. In a summer quilt, you wouldn't need as much coverage necessarily, but personally, I would rather have to vent a larger quilt than have to carry extra insulation in case I get cold.

I have a 3/4 Summer Phoenix (rated to 50 degrees, no longer listed for sale), and I have taken it to 27 degrees very comfortably.

Thank you for the thoughts. I'm a warm sleeper so maybe the 40 degree Phoenix would work for me in most of my camping situations. I only camp under 30 degrees a few times a year and then I could just add a pad to the bottom insulation....

I don't have a Yeti. So, I can't help you with that. But, I do have a 20* Phoenix. And it is really nice. It have draft collars head & foot ends. And it has curves in it that form to your body. And I like how long it is. I'm 5'7" and the quilt fit from my shoulders to my ankles.
Suspension fully adjustable & fits well.
Hope this helps. I'm sure someone with a Yeti will also reply..
    Good Luck

I own both and I would get the HG quilt. It has baffles. The WB quilt is sewn through. Big difference in warmth for a slight increase in weight.

Bat I would disagree with that statement. I use the Yeti exclusively and I used the older version which is rated down to 30*F (11.2oz total weight) before Brandon added an extra ounce of down and got the rating to 20*F.

I've gotten my version down to 24*F before I started getting CBS.

That exceeded my expectations for that type of quilt (sewn through or otherwise).

WB quilts aren't sewn through, with the exception of a few early prototypes. Both the 3 season and winter versions have full baffles, and draft tubes. In fact, WB was the first to introduce draft tubes in underquilts.

Both the WB and HG quilts are top quality and you can't go wrong with either. You should choose between them based on your preference for suspension type and dimensions.

The quilt being able to slide up and down the shock cord on the HG stuff helps tremendously dialing in your quilt with you in it.

WB quilts have had full-length sliding adjustment since they were introduced, FWIW.
