Rip Waverly,
have you considered modifying the Wren to have the opposite end opened up like the foot end? with a sinch cord and everything.
So about 4-6 inches above the face opening the sinch hole start and hammock is passed through.
They could also add 2 tabs on either end for shock cord to keep it stretched.
I am hoping somebody tries it. i am very close to pulling the trigger on getting the Rock Wren in long and having someone with the skill set to do this mod for me.
Blaze that trail for me. And break out the scissors.
Matt B.
that sounds perfect. i do not DIY, though - and wouldn't trust myself with scissors near my gear, unless its cordage. especially down fill.
i have not approached FF about this type of mod, although bigfoot2 has had great work done by Mat at UKHammocks. if i were to go through with it... he'd be the guy i'd hire. (i jokingly refer to him as the "surgeon")
this mod would take a lot of fit-testing initially, but once done... man would it be sweet.
maybe not right now, but a consideration no doubt....

DOWNTOWN BROWN!!!!
Just got an email yesterday from FF
they have the Rock Wren in Epic 20% off their old price.
$252 for a long.
How much would a mod like i mentioned cost? to have the perfect UQ/ tQ all in one set up?
Seems like it could be done pretty reasonably. Speer pod system alone was $400.
Is your winter wren regular length? if so how tall are you?
They said a full zipper mod (on an already completed item) would be upwards of $100 if I recall from my conversations with them. Something still being sewn might be a different story, assuming they don't have to alter the pattern too much.
I have the regular length, and am 5'8". It's a great size for me as a pod...and the long would be unmanageable worn as a garment.
I'd like to get my hands on a rock wren, too! The winter is awesome, but is gonna be overkill for 3S hiking. Hmmmm, 20% off"...........

rip,
I put a feeler out in the "other venders and services" i'll see if someone is willing to make the alterations for me, i would have the Rock Wren shipped to them directly.
FF said they would supply the shock cord too!
If it works, i wouldnt even care about it being wearable. At 1lb 9oz for a top and under quilt combined. I would leave it permanently attached to the hammock! A solid 3 season setup.
Ohh the potential!
.
"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubt" -BR-.
A solid three season set up indeed~and when deep winter rolls around one could always wrap a pod around it-think of the depths of cold one could hang in.
The 3 season setup def. has allure and I too would forgo the ability to wear it but I see no reason why when either the Wallcreeper or Wren is modded it cannot be made so the suspension egress hole can close back up.
i'll be patiently waiting to hear back about this potential hood mod -
**edit** in the meantime- i've contacted FF and spoke with them about this mod and was quoted $200 w/ a 5-6 week turnaround.
they, instead, recommended reaching out to someone with DIY skills to perform the mod., rather than contract them.
& i cannot speak any more highly about the pod system
on the whole. very very good stuff here.
