You don't have to make whoopie slings on Goat Island. Stu over at http://whoopieslings.com has graciously provided two sets of whoopie slings for the silent auction.

We hope the money raised will help with the beautification of the island and also help boost awareness of the different cottage vendors out there. The proceeds for this will go back to Greenwood County Lake Management to help install permanent fire rings in the designated camping areas.

    Thanks Stu.

Ahhhhh..... what a relief. Nice to have the PE exam behind me and now I can concentrate all my leftover brain cells into how to hang me hammock correctly...

For those planning to go, Saturday evening's meal is a community meal consisting of the traditional Goat Island favorite, the often imitated but never duplicated.... Low Beaufort Frogmore Country Boil Stew. Please check the sign up sheet and let us know how much shrimp to plan for you and whatever crew you may be bringing with you. Typically shrimp has been running anywhere from $7-$9 a pound. I will post the exact cost (per pound) once I have located a supplier. I wish I were in a better position financially that I could cover this but unfortunately I am not. I can by the shrimp just prior to the hang and would request that you pay me for the amount you have signed up for when you get a free moment at the island.

All other meals will be on your own.

Looking forward to meeting new hangers and hanging with previous hanging buddies!

I'm strongly considering coming to this after talking to chickenwing this weekend. I may paddle to the island but am leaning toward taking a day or 2 off work and bring my nitro so I may be able to help people get to the island if I end up going.

Would love to have you come up. I really enjoyed meeting you and Sadie on the Chatooga. I don't know if this will help things but here is the most recent Freshwater Fishing Report for Lake Greenwood (as of April 12 pulled directly from SCDNR website).

    Lake Greenwood:

Crappie: Very good. Sportsman's Friend reports that crappie have backed off the banks but fishing is still very strong. The majority of the fish are being caught in 6-10 feet of water around brush, using both minnows and jigs.
Largemouth Bass: Good. Sportsman's Friend reports that bass are in all three stages of the spawn on Lake Greenwood, and although a lot of fish have already bedded there are many currently spawning or still to spawn. Floating worms fished early and late around trash (wood, shallow brush, etc.), off points and in the backs of coves are catching fish.
Catfish: Good. Captain Chris Simpson reports that the drift bite is strong for channel cats in the upper half of the lake. 5-18 feet is the best depth, with some fish being caught as shallow as 2 feet. Cut shad and herring are working the best.
Bream: Good. Sportsman's Friend reports that even though they aren't bedding yet both bluegill and shellcrackers are really starting to move around and feed well. Fish crickets and worms around docks, shallow cover and in the backs of coves.

For those wanting to know - I just received an Autographed copy of "The Ultimate Hang: An Illustrated Guide to Hammock Camping" for the silent auction.

I sure hate to back out of this hang, but my husband will be competing in a National Bus Driver's competition that weekend in Baltimore, Md, and I have to support him and be his cheerleader.
I know you all will have a great time, and ChickenWing keeps reminding me of that. I sure hate to miss it.
I was signed up to bring the grill and a pontoon boat, so I hope someone can replace me in that. I truly apologize for not being able to make it.

Well thats a bummer. Been hearing good things of you and Mr. BH from Chickenwing and was looking forward to meeting both of you. Guess we'll have to postpone this meeting.

Good luck to Mr. BH in his competition. We'll make sure to have a celebratory moment for him during our Saturday evening feast.

Just a bump and an FYI.

I am adding to the list those vendors committed to donating to the Silent Auction part of this event.

Not sure if this little GWD event can compete with Trail Days just yet but with a few more vendors it just may be possible.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in just a few more weeks.

Please visit the sign-up sheet and post what you can bring to help out with the community meal on Saturday night.
