I've got about 10 ideas in my head at any one time. A few of them occasionally make it to prototype or completion. So I don't know what I'll be doing exactly.

I'm going to build a small smoke-house....with a steel ring built into its side and about 15' from a tree in my backyard. Meat smoking from my hammock; good times. I can nap between furnace fueling.
    Trust nobody!

Going to break down and purchase some down for a lightweight and efficient UQ and possible TQ later! I've been working with Climashield and Insultex. Climashield is a fantastic material, but it remains a bit too stiff for me to pack it small. (I made a a compression sack, for it, but its still a ot of work compressing it.) Insultex is wonderful; it's really great for temps around 40- 50* ...... That 900 down gooks pretty promising! At least I've improved my sewing skills so I won't be wasting all that down.

I'll be starting the year off working on a primaloft TQ and some no-see-um tarp skins. Knowing myself I'll probably also be making some stoves this year and I may even try my hand at a DIY hammock.

    1) Cold weather down jacket with baffles instead of sewn thru. 7d material most likely.

    2) Minimalist cuben backpack in the 1500-1800 cu in range. I *hate* making backpacks so not looking forward to this one.

    3) Caldera clone for my Fosters can/pot.

Probably be several others in there as folks' MYOG projects inspire me to try it for myself.

A list as long as my arm, just as soon as my sewing machine is back up and running:

    • Finishing my alpha test pack.
    • Starting my complete hammock system alpha test.
    • DIY Wristies for somewhat cool weather.
    • DIY no-see-um gaiters for bug season (coming up in a month or two here...).
    • A fleece/Thinsulate/windblock nylon watch cap.
    • Possibly a fedora-style hat (don't know if my skills are up to this).
    • Possibly DIY sandals (again, I don't know if I'll have the skills for this this year).

As far as what I have on my plate right now: a wood stove/alcohol burner combo to send off sometime this weekend.

There were only about 50 things I wanted to do when I first joined so I'll move the remaining 49 in to 2012. This is a great thread for making me feel inadequate.

    • gathered end hammock
    • cat cut hex tarp
    • bishop bag
    • down UQ
    • wristies
    • no-see-um tarp python

Just like new years resolutions I think most DIY list are a bit optimistic although not at all unattainable. After all, we get to enjoy our projects in the woods when we finish

I agree with your feeling of inadequacy. I would never attempt to tackle some of the complex gear people are planing to make. It would only lead to trashed material and frustration.

Start simple and work your way up. I could never have made my bug hut 2 years ago.
