Is the difference between the one inch strap and the one and a half inch strap? I would imagine that both hold just fine. Is it personal preference for one reason or another?

Personal preference it is. From what I have read on this forum, 1" is the most commonly used size for tree straps.
The preferred strap material is polyester. Nylon has too much stretch.
About 95% get 1" for their 1" straps. I think the 1.5" is mostly from people using their HH explorer hugger.

Thanks for all the help, webbing is on the way!! I think that I'm going to use my carbon arrows cut down into 2" toggles. (why buy them for $7 when I can make em myself...)
