First solo overnight

Make sure you read the thread about noises in the woods...it will get you mentally prepared..hehe.

First solo is the hardest and can also be the most exciting. It is great to get away from all that is electronic and decompress by yourself. I like to spend 30 minutes or so, just before I turn in, just sitting completely still, listening to the sounds and using my peripheral sight to take in everything that is happening around me. You will be amazed at the little things you would otherwise miss. Have had some really cool animal encounters with foxes, bears, deer and coyotes. Just remember they are more frightened of you than you are of them and don't startle the bears and you should be fine. Enjoy the experience and let us know how it goes.

You are actually safer in the woods than any where else close to a city..
I like to be a little more stealthy when alone.. If you are in bear country take such precautions. ( food etc.).. Have a blast... Enjoy nature at it's best.. Good thing you are gettin out before the gun deer season opener.....

Have a great Time I myself enjoy going on solo hikes and camping gives me some "real alone time" I know it goes against the Buddy System that we all learned , but in this day and age cell phones, gps systems and the such make Solo hiking and camping a little safer in my opinion someone is always nearby in a sense

Just make sure someone knows your proposed camping area and your proposed trail just in case

Have Fun and the real test is when you hear all of the Night Noises

Have fun and don't listen to NON-HIKERS.

My fiance's family always comments about bears in the woods and it's dangerous. However, these knuckle heads never even been hiking or camping a day in their lives.

Bear bag yo shiznizzle and enjoy yourself. Those things that go bump in the night... no worries. Man-Bear-Pig is friendly.

Heading off to a semi solo this weekend myself. Holla at your boy.

Can be intimidating, but the rewards are great. Just think of the respect you will get from your nay-sayer non-hiking friends. Make you a bet that most of them wouldn't even last an hour in the dark.

ANd if all else fails, build a small campfire for psycological warmth.

I love solo canoe trips. Six days, five nights is my longest. Just know that the woods is your home, there to embrace and protect you. Feel the love.

I just did my first solo about two weeks ago. It was a blast. My trip report is in this section too. Best of luck and plan it well before hand so you can relax during.
