anyone up for a firestarting contest? I have always had the worst luck with either hand friction or bow friction. I can make every single part of the kit to make the perfect coal--but I only once got from wood to flame. Any one up for the game?

Perhaps a fire starting "How to" and then followed by a contest. That way folks could put a new skill to work.
Look up before you hook up!!

Hope I can find parking for this out there.
To our faithful organizers: Could we have a recap of the important info in one post. I've tried keeping up, but this thread is really long now, and I'm afraid I may have missed something. Did I read somewhere about making Paypal donations for this event? Thanks.
Here is the email I have tried to keep up with sending out to everyone who signed up on the attendance list. I might have missed someone along the way:
Thanks for your interest in the 2nd Annual Florida Hang. Looking forward to seeing you there.
I'm sending a PM to each of you interested in attending the FH2 in January. I think the organizers were pleasantly surprised with the amount of participation last year and this year is looking like it will be even more widely attended.
Putting together an event like this takes a bit of planning. This year I'm helping out by taking on the task of collecting donations/contributions to help with expenses. This is not a money making endeavor, we merely hope to cover the expenses of the campsite, firewood, patches, food, etc. The goal is for everyone to have a great time in January.
As we continue to organize and plan, details will be posted in the forums.
If you would like mail a donation my address is:

Looking forward to hanging with you in January!
Thanks,
Terri/Gumbo

There are plans for a community Bash on Saturday evening consisting of a Low Country Boil and a Chicken and Sausage Gumbo along with various dutch oven delights.
Sometime Saturday evening there will be a raffle for various prizes. Those wishing to buy a raffle ticket should see me once you reach camp. There will be a drawing for small prizes and then all tickets will be put back in for a drawing on larger grand prize drawings.
Others might have a few other details to add in. I know there was talk of a group hike and talk of a group kayaking Alexander or Juniper Springs at some point during the weekend.
Hope this helps!
Firewood gang! We need firewood! I am looking into a source--anyone have a good lead?

For those who like it a bit more concise:
1- Donations collected by "Gumbo", PM for details
2- Buck Lake, ONF is gated, open @noon Friday January 13. FH2 dates 13-16.
3- Parking is at a premium, try to double-up carpooling if possible.
4- Primitive covered toilets @Buck Lake, NO SHOWERS or running water.
5- Fresh water pump available @Common Area.
6- Come self-contained, bring fresh water & or water filtering, just in case.
7- The only budgeted group meal is the Saturday Bash (Low Country Boil and Chicken and Sausage Gumbo). For any other meals Don't assume Group Eating unless you have made arrangements. Plan ahead.
8- Bring something to share, you decide.
