Enjoyed your Yak trip pics Bob.
I'll be watching Foods hike thread too. I see no reason why I couldn't make it. That is, if it's ok if I invite myself.

I would enjoy hiking with you again, Derek. I need to get out. If we get a lot of snow then we can scale back the trip. Right now I have my daughter dropping me off in Bailey on Saturday and picking me up just outside Roxborough State Park Monday afternoon. We might have to organize a shuttle if a bunch of people want to come.
But we can hike somewhere close that weekend. It might turn into a winter hike, but...
The alternative route on Segment 1 is more scenic than the Waterton Canyon road walk. The problem is that there is no overnight parking in Roxborough State Park.
I did this hike November 3 thru 5 in 2006 with a guy that was born in 1932. We started at 9:15 on the 3rd and got to the Waterton trailhead at 2:45 on the 5th. three nights might be a more relaxed pace, but two nights is what solves the water problems on Segment 2. Both nights we will have dinner then walk several miles to camp. Need to have the capacity to carry 3 quarts of water for the dry camps.
It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so.

Roxborough State Park is one CT start alternative, but there are limitations including no dogs and no overnight parking, etc.
Indian Creek Trailhead is another CT start alternative with fewer limitations. The CTF website has a page explaining it, plus a printable map and detail, here:

Roxborough is where the alternate start is right? Off hiway 67?
Rampart Range Road is just across the highway from the Trailhead there. You could park in the first big parking area on Rampart Road where the trailriders unload their bikes.

Been seeing in other posts around here that the high country
is getting snow already.
Yeah, but it will probably be in the 60s next week.
Trust nobody!
Yep, weather might be a problem at that time. I enjoy snow travel with scaled back miles. I enjoy beautiful fall hiking. What I do NOT enjoy is wet & sloppy trails. In Colorado we have the option of changing altitude to pick our weather - within reason. Car camping is also an option.

I am so jealous. My family and I moved to the Northwest a few years ago and man to we miss it back there in Colorado. Enjoy the dry weather for me.
Hi John, How did the scouting trip go?
With the cooler weather we've gotten lately have you been able to DIY an UQ?
I'm about to put my summer UQ up for the season and breakout the 3 season full length.
With a little luck we'll be getting some Indian summer temps which awesome hanging weather IMO.
Aspens started changing about 2 weeks ago in the high country(>9000ft).

Snow can happen. Carry snow shoes, trekking poles and spikes. Just pack the right gear and monitor the weather conditions ahead of you. Wind protection and fire starter skills are important. No Cotton.
