I'm most concerned about getting my car to and from the parking area safely, so plowed roads should be a necessity in my mind. Aren't there any other appropriate sites in that general area? State parks, campgrounds? I'd like some nice hiking, but surely there are other places in the general area that would work? Wish I could suggest some, but don't know the area at all.

"I fish because I love to; because I love the environs where trout are found, which are invariably beautiful... because, in a world where most men seem to spend their lives doing things they hate, my fishing is at once an endless source of delight and an act of small rebellion; because trout do not lie or cheat and cannot be bought or bribed or impressed by power, but respond only to quietude and humility and endless patience...." --Robert Traver

This poll is effectively on hold, given what's under discussion in the other thread.

    We'll get it done somehow!

Regardless of what governing body sets restrictions or where park boundaries are located, the impact of 40 people on any area near the AT is going to be substantial. Also, these areas have already been severely impacted by the large number of people who visit them throughout the year. I'd rather meet at some place that looks more like a forest and try to leave it looking that way, even with a group as large as ours.

I closed this thread so we can concentrate on the one trip planning thread. It was getting confusing keeping up with two. When we have our options in place to vote on again, we can start a new poll. Cheers!
