Van Dusen is close nov 1 thru may 1, but polique canyon is open year round. There are also some really nice yellow posts on the south side of the lake and some lower down off the 38. The ones to the south of the lake usually have a lot more snow to deal with on the trails, that I normally cant get through in my truck, but I am 2 wheel drive

I would love to go, but I am not setup for winter camping yet. I might want to check out your setups tho, if you don't mind. Maybe I will bring mine and see if I can hang, Pun intended. I hope you guys plan some summer trips too, I will definitely go then.

I walked around serrano around new years. It was plowed, but the sites weren't... There wasn't more than 6" of snow in a site, so you should be able to get in without a truck.

It's dobtful I can go, but if I were, I'd bring some duct tape and 2 extra WM pads just in case.

Worst case scenario, you can get a blue poly tarp 10x12, and if tied right, you could have doors to cut the wind...

I have a 1951 US military issue Arctic sleeping bag (ok, it's 2 bags in one) Should be good to well below zero, with a double-thick pad... Add a KISS overcover or a hammock sock and you should be warm enough. It uses a top zipper, so climbing inside should be doable in a hammock.

I'd love to see this happen when the weather is warmer - I'm not set up for winter camping!

I'd love to go in the summer... In fact, we plan on bringing the RV's with the family... If we coordinate, I could always "Hike out" and meet up for a night..

Looks like warmer weather would be better for me also. Not set up for the snow yet.

I am set up for the ground in the snow, not sure how I will do in the Hammock, but I am willing to give it a go both in winter and summer. I am camping up there all the time anyways.

Ha, the way the "winter" is going, a winter camp there right now would be more like a fall/spring camp anywhere else...Low 60's durring the day, 30-40 at night.... hell it is supposed to be 80 in Brea where i live today.... hell of a january...

I was up there yesterday to test out my new snowshoes. Started of going up Polique Canyon, road was good most of the way but started getting a little muddy for my 2 wheel drive before I got to Holcomb Valley. Since I did not think my wife would pull the winch line, we turned around and went up through Fawnskin and ended up by Big Pine Flats. Lots of snow, road a little muddy in spots but not bad. Weather was clear, about 58, and got down to about 40 by the time we left around 7:30 last night. Here is a track from our little test run, hopefully we can get back up there next weekend for a little camp and a longer snowshoe http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=937065
