I just looked it up in my Oxford reference dictionary that I purchased in an English bookstore in London some years back, and according to it, the fruit's proper name would be spelled "cantaloup", (note the lack of the letter "e" at the end of the word). And "cantaluppi" near Rome, were first grown in Europe.I didn't know that and now we all do!
But like I said before...thanks for including my t-shirt request to the list Gargoyle.
