    Only took two hangs…

So after years of a ENO I finally bit the bullet and got a double layered chameleon. Best thing since slice bread, but I got in a hurry and didn’t check my beetle buckle before laying down second hang in it and put about a 1-1.5” fray on the edge of the strap.

I feel safe using it from the loop to before the frayed edge but if I have to go past it I’m not so sure. Anyway to keep it from fraying more or just order a new strap and have spare material???

    Order a new strap
But first, use old strap until you are in habit of checking your strap and buckle to make sure suspension is set before loading.
That way, when you get new strap, it’ll be less likely to slip&fray!

We all have done that sort of thing. Good thing is once you have done it you will always be aware of it. Consider it a good lesson. And yes, get a new strap...not worth hitting the ground. I have had straps break after a lot of use. Go with your gut.

I’ve been using a strap with a frayed edge, that is a few inches long, for a few years and no sign of a problem. It’s not that I don’t have several other pairs of straps, but I just don’t see it failing.
If you prepare for failure you will probably succeed.

Thanks fellas, definitely believe in going with my gut Shug, rigging on cranes for ten years teaches ya gravity’s law is absolute . Plus side to new straps I’ll probably splurge and get the sewn in beetle hooks this go round.

Guess I got a fancy strap for pulling feed troughs around the ranch and really test the webbings mettle!

I had a frayed strap fail. Middle of the night, THUD!!
Knocked the wind out of me. Took a few to figure what the heck happened? Then another few minutes to wriggle out of quilt and unzip hammock. Found my headlamp and saw the carnage of strap ripping. So I tied a loop in the good section, rehung hammock and gingerly went back sleep.
Luckily, nothing in way of sticks or rocks to fall on. Just soft dirt and pine needles. I had cleaned up area while originally setting up.

Replace straps. Cut out frayed section and tie in a loop, if possible. No telling when or if it’ll break, but you don’t want the same thing I went through.
Next morning I found my clip about twenty feet away in the weeds.

Just like those contact sports hits you never saw coming until you were on your back, confused, and trying to get your lungs to work. Glad you ended up ok. I’m digging out a LOT of old camping hammock gear from 8-10 years ago and looking to the fall for a cool Texas night hang ( December lol) but I’ll be checking stitching and straps now.

my ribs hurt just reading your post.
