Hi,
can somebody explain me the difference between Asym and not-Asym? Is Asym according to the diagonal position?
Hi,

That's pretty much it. The Non Asym ... or a gathered end hammock ... you can lay on the diagonal but the Asym is made to allow it a bit easier.

I own a few Hennessy hammocks and have made a few gathered end hammocks. The biggest surprise to me was learning that the HH body is not actually cut asym. It simply has tie outs that pull it into a head left/feet right asym shape and the bug netting is cut to match.
When you lay on an angle in most hammocks you lay flatter. Some hammocks provide enough width and length to encourage an angled (asym) position while others don't.

Only the bug net on the HH is asym...like Knotty says, the hammock body is a rectangle. The asym bug net and the tie-outs make it look different but don't actually affect the lay of the hammock. That's useful, but the title "asym" is a clever way to set it apart from other hammocks.
Interestingly, the HH patent (one of them, anyway) discusses an actual asym body...but the product isn't made that way.

Asym refers to teh way you lay in the hammock, which closes the velcro flap and keeps you as flat as possible.
Peter - Asym refers to the shape of the hammock...more specifically, the shape of the bug net and the placement of the tie-outs, since the HH body is a rectangle.
Diagonal refers to how you lay in the hammock. You can lay diagonally in any hammock, even ones with completely symmetrical bodies and bug nets. Nearly all hammocks are made to be laid in diagonally...bridge hammocks are the major exception.
For example, I lay at the same diagonal in the Blackbird and Speer-type hammocks...and they have rectangle (i.e. symmetrical) bodies and bug nets. Although the Blackbird does have a footbox.

In other words, I can take my no net Asymmetrical HH, remove the pull outs and place them symmetrically and the HH sides will pull out like the HH Scout?
You learn something every day. My HH is a couple of months old but I believed it to be cut asymmetrically because of the HH description and the tie outs, bug net shape, tarp shape etc. as discussed above. Good question Miraculix.
The so-called stock tarp is also cut asymmetrically. Instead of a symmetrical diamond, the "points" are offset from the centre line of the hammock to carrespond to the head and foot tie outs of the hammock. So the hammock has a "head" end, unlike the hex tarp.
