Video: Lost Cove Loop - Wilson Creek Area NC

Got out and did a 14 mile loop in the Wilson Creek area of Pisgah National Forest in NC.

We got rained on, a lot. For the first time ever I had rain run down my suspension and soak the foot end of my hammock. I can’t figure out why. I had drip lines and I’ve been out with the same setup in much heavier rain. The only thing I can think of is that I was hanging on a hill and the angle on my suspension was a little steeper than usual, causing the rain to run down faster?

Thanks for hiking in the rain for us. I like the idea of a rain hang in theory, but in reality it’s not always that fun. The sleep is good, but other tasks —not so much.

The leaves look great and that hiking along the creek was some classic trail. Thanks for sharing and taking us along.

Looks like a wet time but still good to get out.
I’ve always been curious about the trail from Big Lost Cove Cliffs down to Lost Cove. Is it semi obvious?

It’s easy to follow, the first half is basically a creek bed and brutal on the feet. The second half is super easy hiking.

Great video and report as always. If that was on the 19th, I got soaked as well doing a loop around Shining Rock. Forecast was for light rain for about 4 hours. Rain started light around 11 in the morning and then was pouring through the afternoon until about 3-4 am the next day. Didn't even bother making dinner that night.
