10 minute Bridge hammock from British army basha

I have been eyeing up bridge hammocks and various designs for a while now. But while out for a dog walk I thought I would have a go at knocking up a rudimentary one.

I got the measurements by measuring from my chest to my fingertips (roughly 36 inches) and cut the cord and bar to that. Attached to the handles of the basha, notched the timber and boom I have a bridge hammock.

As it's doubled over I can slide a pad inbetween and it is truly comfortable. There is a slight case of hyper extension but taking a couple of inches from the foot end spreader bar should correct this.

I know we all love the latest bit of kit but sometimes it's great to go back to basics, I'm really looking forward to spending a night in it, I'll leave the spreader bars at home and cut some in the woods. Will post a construction vid tomorrow but the whole thing was built and tested in 10 mins. If you leave it as single layer you can use the other half as a tarp type cover.

    Pretty cool. Nice impromptu bed.
Get lost in the woods and find yourself again. A vacation,to me, is working with your hands and surviving because of the fruits of your labor. In the business world I teach;in the natural world I learn.

Great post! I havent seen a Basha for a long time. Lots of tie outs, grommets and even handles so it can be used as a stretcher. Although heavy, they were made to last. Look forward to seeing your video!

Would love to see a pic of it loaded and using some found sticks! Great idea also, it's designed to be strong enough to be a stretcher so no worries there.
