Are draft colars useful on underquilts ?

Maybe I do not know how to use them?
Be them outside, or inside, they do not seem to block much when the end of the underquilt makes a gap. I have the impression that if they were not there, the gap would be exactly the same.

Yes. Both of our LLG Habanero's have them. When I made our CDT's, I just double over a 10" row at each end. Again, works great. We also tried them at the open end of CDT TQ's,I don't find them so useful, but my wife still likes them. I find the larger size of the collars to be more filling than the smaller LLG's, but they're both efficient at helping to close any gaps. The Habanero has a taper fit at the ends which I'm sure contributes to closing any gaps, even if a bit of air slips past the collar there's nowhere for it travel. In any case I wouldn't order an UQ without them.

If you have significant gappage then you could probably use some experienced help in getting things adjusted correctly. Don't forget to move into all the variious positions you're likely to use during the night adjusting for the happy medium, perhaps.

I second Sqidmark's strong support of the draft collar like in all of LLG UQs. I've bought underquilts without them, and do notice a big difference in ease of setup and gap control using quilts that have the draft collar vs those that don't have the draft collar. They dodge drafts better than Bill Clinton.

+3, they can correct for user error and save you on a cold night. I get them on all of my LocoLibre under quilts.

In defense of some of the quilts that don't have them - including some very popular ones - my opinion on them is that they should be crushed if the UQ is fitted properly. But a perfect fit can be hard to do, especially when trying to insulate asymmetrically (diagonal lay), so they can help. More so if you don't have a tarp with doors.

I only have Hammock Gear UQs with them but I think they work very well especially for my 3/4 under quilt.

    Cheap insurance.

I've built some summer synthetic quilts without them... but it's hard to even tell if everything is working exactly right in summer.
Those quilts were intended to be as light as possible but beyond pushing the absolute limit it seems gram wise and pound foolish.
