No, I made a soft shackle that I use just like a carabiner to connect the Hammock to the daisy chain.

I just weighed my Spider Daisy Chain and Mantis pair and they are 4.1 oz. But, mine are 10' long I like my whoopie slings and straps that I got from Warbonnet but these are just so light and simple to use. I have only used them in the backyard so far but really looking forward to using them in the field

My entire suspension with the daisy chain connected to 5 foot Dutch spider tree huggers is 2.4 ounces.

I did some research and a bit of math. According to the Dutch website 1 pair of 5' Spider Tree Hugger weighs 22g. Two 6' pieces of Spider Daisy Chain should be about 59g. Both together would be 81g. Your suspension weighs 2.4oz or about 68g, which means a weight saving of 13g. That's not substantial enough to me, seeing that I'm not sure how well the loops will hold up. I have spliced a couple of daisy chains for hanging quilts, and thought about doing something similar for hanging hammocks, but read somewhere on the forums that the locked brummel would not be strong enough. How heavy are you? I'd definitely be interested in hearing back from you about how well the AmSteel daisy chains are doing after heavy use.

I think it looks pretty cool. I'm guessing there's plenty of margin in the strength of the Amsteel (assuming 7/64") to tolerate the brummels, knowing each one is slightly weaker than a length of Amsteel. Probably...

All that splicing is definitely labor-intensive but I see that as trivial. Bottom line, I'm not a huge fan of Amsteel on Amsteel. Can't imagine there would be much of a weight penalty having a toggle or button on the hammock's CL rather than using the soft shackle.

    Well spliced.

I had always been under the impression that a locked brummel being "split" on the "Y" (as in this design) was substantially less strong/durable than a locked brummel/bury combo being "pulled" with inline tension.

I suppose time will tell, so I hope you update this thread over time after you've had a couple of dozen hangs on this suspension.

Looks really nice. I've been thinking about doing the same thing for the daughters hammocks. will be watching for updates.

    Well done.

I agree with the concern for weakness. This idea seems to work for Exped but I don't know if their system is 7/64 or 1/8. Maybe there's enough margin in the strength for it to not matter(?)

Exped is using 1/8th inch Dyneema and they rate this at 990 lbs. I also dug up some photos on the forum about it. It looks like their dyneema is made with this all spliced into place during manufacturing. It is very interesting though.
