It’s been a while since I’ve posted a trip report, but I have just come back from a week in the N. GA. mountains and wanted to share some pics. It rained much more than we wanted, but we stayed pretty dry. Everyone in the family has finally converted to hanging, but I only have 3 tarps for the 6 of us. Two sets hung side by side and one set went with the bunk type hang. It was a little tight, but everyone agreed that close quarters are much better than sore backs and hips due to the ground.

We did a lot of reading, which was one of the main goals of getting away. I have to brag on my kids about being good about leaving the world of cell phone connectivity. I hear horror stories from co-workers and their daily fights about electronics. We actually had to track down a used book store to resupply 2/3 of the way through the week. I finally started reading the Jack Reacher series. I should have started years ago. I guess I can watch the movies now … and see if I like how the character makes the transition from book to film.

One night I heard my daughter grunt and I looked over to her hammock and found that our dog, 80 lbs. of half lab and half Shepard decided to join her to escape the rain that had started. I guess I need to make one more for him.

We took a few side trips during the week. We did a short loop through NC and visited a few waterfalls (no pics in this thread), hiked a few hours on the Bartram Trail at the Warwoman Dell area, and had an impromptu drive up to the GSMNP for a family favorite loop. We saw 1 elk, numerous turkeys, and 3 bears. I usually see bears on the western side of the park, but these three were on the eastern side, very close to the Oconaluftee Visitor Center. Sadly, the SLR was left at the house since I wasn’t planning on the GSMNP day trip and all pics were made via cell phones. Oh well, my bad. The morning in the GSMNP was quite cloud covered, but cleared up nicely after lunch time.
