    Continuous loop to tree strap

Hey I was just wondering, is there any negative side to just going from your continuous loop to a tree strap with either a slippery half hitch or a becket hitch?

I wouldn't completely trust a slippery half hitch but Becket and J-Bend are quite popular. My preference is J-Bend.

    Continuous loop to tree strap

I had to attach my CL to my tree hugger to my last hike. my trees were too close together, so I used a marlin spike hitch on my strap and put my CL over that

Yeah the J Bend & Becket are better.

That's my primary suspension: 12' tree straps to continuous loop w becket hitch (slippery sheet bend). Has yet to fail; probably about a dozen nights. To loosen, it's not quite as easy as just pulling on the loose end; I usually need to jerk the strap toward the tree, which loosens the beckett hitch somehow (I should do a video on this).

To make the Becket hitch much easier to release, larkshead a little loop of cord to the CL and pull the little loop against the hitch to loosen it. Works like a charm. (Credit: Jeff Myers, and he's got a YT video on it somewhere...)

Thanks, found the video. I've used thicker straps & CL so my "jerk the strap toward the tree" has worked so far. I liked Jeff's tip of not needing to feed the whole strap through the CL (which should be obvious but not to me!)

This is particularly helpful with the lightest weight straps such as kevlar, as they are really hard to untie after loading without this trick. This works great with the Becket or J Bend and ultralight straps.

If you try it with the J-Bend you'll see there is a little problem with it.

The little pull loop won't slide thru the MSH!

However, there is a cure... you can use the tail of the slipped bight and the corresponding part of the strap on the other side of the slipped bight to pull in exactly the same fashion as the puller loop on the Becket. This is why I make the slipped bight so large when I do the J-Bend... in order to have plenty of material to grasp when doing this.

I have UCRs, but I end up using the Beckett Hitch more often than not, because trees tend to be pretty close together wherever I go. Never had a problem with it.
