I'm definitely not a Dr so take this with a grain of salt
Low sodium levels can definitely cause leg cramps. Each of those packets of mustard has about 60 MG of sodium in it so 3 of them would get you about 180 MG and that is about 10% of your daily recommended intake. Could be why it helps?
tonic water (quinine) works great for cramps, if you want to haul it.. might as well haul a little vodka & lime or some gin too..

I didn't believe it worked until trying out, but everyone is different so your miles may vary with this remedy.

A remedy that has worked for me is a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar combined with a tablespoon of lemon juice. Once or twice a day. Depending on the length of my excursion I use a small plastic bottle to store. Tons of info available about ACV.
Iceiceguy has the same remedy as I. Wife had to go on low sodium & the doctor told me to cut salt also. She eliminated any extra salt in her cooking. I woke up with cramps every morning whether in bed or hammock. This went on for nearly a year. I could eat about a table spoon of salt & next morning I was fine. Added salt back to my meals & haven't had a cramp since. Around 10 year.
As others have said, ant no Dr but just stating what worked for me. Google told me low sodium could be a cause & was the reason I tried it.
I just had this happen to me over the weekend, one of the WORST charlie horses I've ever had in my life, my calf muscle on the left leg was sore the rest of the day, it was tough to walk for a bit.
I think hydrating would definitely help out, and making sure you have enough sodium in your diet. I have been on a ketogenic diet for about half a year now and I have to make sure I supplement myself correctly. I used to get cramps a lot when I would go trail running / mountain climbing, but I haven't had too many problems since I started using SaltSticks, and I also like to use this new Pickle Juice drink I've seen at my local grocer (sounds worse than it is) and those both help a ton.
As for my last weekend, I am quite sure it was because I had been drinking tequila that night without drinking water... I had stayed at a friends house for the weekend, and instead of sleeping on the couch, I strung up out on the porch. Stay hydrated!
Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one who has this problem. I guess I'll try to make sure that I'm hydrated before turning in for the night and maybe pound down the bananas before my trip. Thanks for the suggestions!
