Hot hammock/tarp set up - Anyone seen before

I was shown a video from a guy in Michigan who, based on necessity, created a hot shelter with is hammock, a cheap tarp, and plastic drop cloth. Set up looked rough but got me thinking......has anyone seen a tarp set up where backside is normal but front side is a clear/opaqued plastic sheet that traps your fires infrared heat and there by eliminates the need for a UQ?

If its cold enough to have a fire you'll need an underquilt.
I like refried beans. That's why I wanna try fried beans, because maybe they're just as good and we're just wasting time. You don't have to fry them again after all.

I gotta check this out. Off to youtube...

Actual hot tents are great, but I just can't justify the cost. And even if I could, I don't have that kind of effort in me...selecting, cutting, splitting wood. And having gear smell like smoke no matter how well it's burning/venting. Dirty ash, etc. Just can't do it.

I might need to clarify I am not looking for a stove in the shelter but a set up that traps IR heat from fire. I have a 0* zeplin but this concept opens up doors, creates flexibility with a winter tarp/tarp with doors possibly.

Yeah I got ya, just mentioned the actual hot tents and how elaborate they can get. This clear plastic setup is more of a survival technique as I know it. Seen it on at least one of the survival shows, sans hammock. I think it was Dual Survival, maybe Survivorman too.

If I need a quick warm-me-up, I could always haul out a portable genny, gallon of gasoline and this portable sauna...

I don't want fire anywhere near my tarp.

If I build a fire, it's gonna be small and it's gonna be at least this far away.... got a pinhole burn in a very expensive tent one time from a fire that was a good 30-40 feet away.

Good sound advice. I know it wouldn't be perfect but I anticipated using an old wool army blanket as a fire shield if you will over the tarps top.

There's a few of us up here in Michigan who are using hammock hot tents, built from silnylon. If you look for the Green Timbers Big Tree Hang trip reports, you'll see a few of them. Lots of work, but great to have for multi day winter trips. You don't run the stove all night and don't depend on it to keep warm, so you always need the right gear for the conditions.

The bushcraft guys have them for ground dwelling.
