Suggestions for destination for family and dog .

I am planning a vacation trip early June for my family wife two kids 10 and 12 also including our dog. We are relatively experienced backpackers . Looking for hammock friendly longish loops out and backs or easy shuttle trasport. Want to spend a few days backpacking so looking anywhere really. my Daughter wants some mountain views and my wife wants waterfalls .Thinking eastern US but anywhere other than far west coast is close enough to drive from Ohio. I have no trouble Driving for something epic. I want to make memories for my kids before they are older and wrapped up in Teen drama. We have been to Grason Highlands two years ago and loved it, and did some Allegheny last year. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

Hiking in the Monongahela Forest, WV (Canaan Valley area) has many places that would be really scenic, and not too far from OHIO. Dolly Sods, Cranberry Wilderness, Spruce Knob, and The Seneca Creek Trail are excellent I have heard. Never been to these places, but I am itching to go there, and soon. Late july is when you can find blueberries and huckberries growing wild in Dolly Sods. They do have black bear and timber rattlers there, so be aware of that. Also, after the rain, the trails can be VERY muddy I hear. Ask TXAggie or any of the HF members from WV to give you more info on this wonderful hiking area.

2nd on the Dolly Sods recommendation! I just did some day hiking and thought it was great. There is a Facebook group for Dolly you should check out.

You're about 5 hours from Shenandoah National Park in Virginia, too. Lots of great backpacking loops can be made there. The only drawback is that building fires is illegal in the backcountry.

Camp fires are totally legal in WV unless marked otherwise. As far as I’ve heard from others they are ok to have in Dolly Sods keeping the LNT principles in mind. The Sods also has many pre made fire pits already made from previous hikers/campers.
