I have a couple pet palaces and I always use one, but my dog sleeps in the hammock with me anyway. Even though I have a Clark and a chameleon and a raven, I mainly sleep in a dutch netless hexon 1.6. My dog has witch claws because she has some weird thing about people touching her feet so cutting them is a pain, but she's never torn the hammock. I figure if she did I'd just get another since they are super cheap. The pet palace serves as my bug net and gives her somewhere dry to sit until she climbs into the hammock with me.

No claw marks or abrasions. Before Joey, I had another beagle (Peanut) and he didn't leave claw marks or abrasions either. I knew one guy, Kayak Karl, who always slept in the hammock with his 80 lb. labrador without a problem.

Thanks everyone for sharing comments and photos of your Pet Palaces. Really happy we’ve been able to make your outings with pets a positive experience. Looking forward to putting a few more out on the trail!

    Question about dogs and hammocks

Dream Hammock and RipStopByTheRoll and Dutch all have a heavy duty line of hammock fabric, they might be able to get for you.
No fabric is kid proof or dog proof.
PapaSmurf did a video demonstrating some tough fabric fairing well, after being scratched to simulate a dog’s paws.
    Good luck

Dog booties? As long as dog did not remove, might work!

    Question about dogs and hammocks

I like the idea of the pet palace, but I hang with my child and dog. We use the double hammock spreader bar system from Dutch. I don’t think the pet palace would work with that. I use the Alcott Pup Tent. I have an Aussie that is about 35 lbs. she sleeps with me in my Chameleon when it’s below 40. Otherwise, she is in her own tent.

I also bring my dog with me whenever I go camping. I also used this pet carriers when traveling it is equipped with a breathable mesh net, that is why it is safer to use than other carriers. having a pet carrier while camping is necessary for my dog's safety.

Can you send me pictures of your dog bed, looking for ideas for my trail partners (130 pound St. Bernard and the new puppy is a Lab mix that might be 70-80 pounds) and don't want them in my hammock.

Neither of my pups are allowed near the hammocks, for fear of damage. I've never had them backpacking yet (hope to soon), only car camping. I've always brought a kennel for each of them, as it keeps them contained and safe (from taking off after a squirrel, not from predators). I'm looking to DIY something like Mfox has, I'm afraid with just the bug net setup they'd tear their way out of it as soon as they got sight of a critter.

My lab sleeps way better in the Cave Creek Pet Palace than she does in her own small tent or roaming free.
