When they are used correctly there is very little pressure on the webbing at the clip. They are used correctly in the OP's picture.

Thanks Dutch. Was hoping to hear from the expert. I try to run the straps correctly which should reduce the strain on them. I usually set them, get in the hammock to load it which tightens the strap around the tree, then readjust them which normally improves the exit angle. But while we're on topic, you have any of the old style clips laying around like Banjoman has? Any advantage to those versus the titanium clips? If not I'll just stick with what I got.
I had an agreement with JRB to only sell the Aluminum ones through them. They are less expensive than the Ti version. If you have the Ti ones, I would stick to them.

If you are worried about the bending of the tree straps, try sewn on dutch clips. I have both styles, and I prefer the sewn on ones because they dont bend the traps around. Plus I dont have to worry about losing one because it's sewn on (not that I ever have, it is more for peace of mind)
