No, someone said they take ACV (presumably apple cider vinegar) and B vitamins so they don’t get eaten up by mosquitoes

I will let you know in a month or two.

I am planning on using my 2QZQ UQP as a skeeter shield.

If one can get it tight enough that should work great as they hang loose enough to hold the critters away but I can't get my UQP that tight.

Seems like soaking the gear in permethrin is the way to go. Unlike Shug, I don’t have the good luck required for mozzies to leave me be...they seem to absolutely LOVE me.

    However, I do have a follow-up question...

Aside from the quilts, what equipment should it NOT be used on? Is it safe on all fabrics? What about mesh? Or how about elastics? Do I need to worry about that stuff breaking down either of those? I’m experimenting with some outside the box gear carrying methods, so it’s important to know the answer to that, if you all know.

Oh, and when you all say “soak,” do you mean get a jug of the stuff, dump it in a bucket, and then submerge the gear in there? Or are you all not being literal, and you just mean to spray the stuff down generously?

    Section hiker.com had a post a while back. Here's the link: https://sectionhiker.com/permethrin-soak-method-guide/

I buy Sawyer spray bottles but you can also buy permetherin concentrate, mix about 3 ounces and dump it in a gallon baggie with, say, a pair of hiking pants. Shake it up and let it sit for a while to soak up the stuff then air dry. Should work for hammock fabric too, I would think.

As far as I know permethrin should be safe for all fabrics (someone correct me if I am wrong). However, I wouldn’t spray it on anything that is meant to shed water. Like fabrics with DWR coating.

I spray it on all of my outer wear clothing, shoes, and pack. I haven’t sprayed my hammock, but if I go out in buggy weather I would around my head area. The rest of my body would be protected by my UQ and clothing.

I used to soak all clothing other than underwear tops and bottoms in permethrin. Now I just put some Martin's 10% in a one liter chemical approved spray bottle from Ace Hardware and liberally wet down whatever I'm treating.I mostly do pants, shirts, gaiters, and a neck bandana.I occasionally use some Repel Lemon Eucalyptus as a repellent but not often now that I'm using supplements.

Thanks for the info. I’ll pick up a bottle of the concentrated variety once I’m ready to treat everything.

FWIW-the higher concentration permethrin is petroleum based, made for livestock, smells pretty strong. You might want to try the 10 percent Martins.Order a Liter and it will last you for a very long time.Remember to keep your cat away from wet permethrin treated items or overspray as it will kill pets when its wet.
