If this is for a bugout bag scenario, get painter's plastic. You can use it for a ground cloth, single-use rain fly, and window seal (with duct tape) for shelter-in-place as recommended by the Red Cross.

    For your tarp....
    Warbonnet Superfly.
You won't regret it and if by some chance you do, they sell easily.

My only complaint to this day is it might be a bit narrow for UQ/TQ use, trouble keeping the TQ inside that narrow hammock and such, but I always used it inside a Pea Pod anyway. Sorry that after I recommended it, it was not for you! But again, YMMV goes without saying, I'm sure you agree!

Yes, I also always recommended the Safari, though it does run heavy for a single layer hammock. And of course, it is big, so heavier.
No need to be sorry. I wanted to try it and see if I would like a shorter hammock. The Claytor and DD are not uncomfortable, but apart from the Blackbird being a lot more comfortable to me, I didn't like that you need to set them up that tight to get a straight lay, and that they're amazingly heavy. The tiny no-net 300cm Claytor weighs 586g without suspension and stuff sack. The 250cm Expedition Hammock weighs 730g without suspension and stuff sack. The DD Frontline weighs 888g without suspension and stuff sack. For comparison: the 1.1 DL Blackbird which is marginally longer weighs 624g without stuff sack and suspension. I have always wondered if short hammocks need to be made from heavy fabrics because they have to be hung fairly tight. I still have a Switchback and a Clark hammock on my wish list, but I don't have great expectations. And I wonder if both are worth the steep price... Maybe I'm lucky and somebody will bring one to a group hang

Regarding the Safari, it is a comfortable hammock - but I think mainly due to the fabric (I like heavy nylon...) and the fold. I don't like the way the net is cut, which decreases the fairly narrow width further, and the tie-outs interfere with the underquilt. I think I would like a no-net Safari for home use, but can't get myself to cut off the net.

UGQ penny pinchers are really good deals, so are hammockgears quest. I have a UGQ I got winterdream I got on sale and a 11ft quest and am pretty new to tarps and find them both really easy to put up and they cover my 11ft hammocks well!

Welcome to the forums, I’m waving southeast to you from Minnesota. I did a lot of camping in Ontario when I was a teenager and never wanted the trips to ends and to go back to the states. Even when my socks froze in the middle of the night in the summer . Good luck with your BOB. I’m always tweaking mine.

The Clark MARK2 is designed for go to ground, it’s got a waterproof bottom. I posted here to see if it’s the only Clark model for GTG https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ammocks-Models.

There are a few others, there was a kick starter but I forget the name. Last I checked they were working on a new model, but it might be vapourware.
The kickstarter I was thinking of was https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...alpine-hammock, they later had a redesign follow up https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...mmock-redesign and they have a web site http://www.alpinehammock.com/. Apparently version 6 (AH6) is coming in spring 2017...

Another kickerstarter I noted was https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...avel-crua-hybr

Other hammocks designed for on the ground use I noted are: -

    DD SuperLight Jungle Hammock
    > Detachable waterproof layer – use underneath for bivi camping or overhead as a compact tarp
    > Both the mosquito net and the extra waterproof layer are detachable
    https://www.ddhammocks.com/product/d...ck?from_cat=32

    DD Travel Hammock / Bivi
    > The double-layered DD Travel Hammock/Bivi has a built on mosquito net and a waterproof floor.
    > This hammock's waterproof base layers make it ready to deploy on the ground as a bivi.
    > Some Travel Hammock users may experience mild condensation due to the waterproof floor.
    https://www.ddhammocks.com/product/d...ck?from_cat=32

I had noted the DD - XL - Frontline Hammock - Olive Green, but I don't think it fits the bill as it needs a groundsheet (e.g. it's the same as all the regular hammocks).

    Lawson Blue Ridge Camping Hammock
    > Waterproof nylon border on the canopy protects against water blowing up under rain fly.
    > Waterproof ripstop-nylon rain fly included.
    > Use suspended or on the ground.

We used to have a major cheerleader, voivalin, for the Alpine Hammock. It's almost the only thing he ever posted about:

    https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...alpine+hammock

Alpine Hammock was sued By Clark Jungle Hammocks for using that pole thingie and were forced to redesign.
