    First overnights

Ok. New hanger here. Anyone at first have a fear of being more exposed hanging in a hammock than when they used to use tents? Can’t seem to get over it. Maybe the space underneath me is the problem. Seems irrational I know but can’t seem to settle down overnight

More exposed? Exposed to what? The pain of sleeping on the ground?

I have had that feeling. It’s not more secure than a tent, or that a tent is secure, but you do have the illusion of privacy in a tent. I usually end up imagining people walking up and looking in.

No not the pain of sleeping on the ground. More like wildlife walking underneath me or right up to me. I’m looking for advice here not sarcastic jabs ok?

Maybe a tarp with doors would help. Also think of the great air flow in the summer coming in under the tarp. My youngest son uses earbuds to listen to music to help him sleep maybe you could use a little distraction to take your mind off the space. Do you have a space to hang where you feel relatively safe? Maybe just getting used to your setup there would help you out with this feeling. Keep trying and good luck.

I have a hex tarp. Maybe hang something in the ends that would block off that space. I might try that

Personally I'd rather have a critter going under me than over me!
I think after a wonderful hammock slumber you may feel differently.
Many folks seem to feel exposed at first; after the zipped-up sanctity of a tent.
    It shall pass.

There is no gear fix for this. It is a state of mind.

I am the hunter, not the hunted. I am bigger and smarter than all of the other creatures in the forest. I look down on them and they will fear me. I have pointy sticks. Anything that wants to sniff my hammock or steal my food had better be prepared for combat. I will defend my territory.

Except for skunks. Don't mess with those.
