Sewing different weights of fabric together.

Does anybody have advice on how to sew different weight fabrics together?

I'm in the planning stages of making a wind shirt. I like the idea of using Dutches 1.9 oz dobby fabric with maybe argon .67 oz or even his 1.1 ion. Or maybe RSBTR calendared 1.6 hyper D with membrane or one of the 1 oz fabrics.

I think that the heavier fabrics on the arms and chest will help with the torns we have around here. Im afraid that if I go too extreme on the weight difference of the fabrics that it will cause problems.

Second question. What type of seam should I use to join the fabrics.

If you find the two fabrics are moving under the foot at different rates, you may want to try basting or adjusting foot tension. Having the heavier fabric on the bottom will make sewing easier.

Using a straight stitch should be fine. An overcast stitch to prevent fraying may be a good idea.
