    Croaton national forest

Hi, Bought a houseboat this past year and am moving it down possibly to the New Bern, NC area and to live on. I'm from Western NY and have gotten the boat down to Deale, MD so far and plan on continuing in the spring. I see the Croaton national forest is nearby and I was wondering if anyone had info on backpacking and/or bikepacking there. Also going down in late January to scope out the area and possibly do an overnighter in the forest if possible. What would the weather be like about that time frame in that area. Thanks Phil

Hey, Philsweep. I'm just down the road from New Bern in Jacksonville, NC. The Neusiok Trail runs through the Croatan from the Havelock area to the Newport area. There are a couple of campgrounds if you'd prefer something more "civilized" as well. There are quite a few roads running through the forest that you could easily bike on, just be careful of the heavy traffic on some (especially Catfish Lake Road.)

What do you want to know ? Check my web site at www.neusioktrail.org

I hike and camp out there on a regular basis.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

Thanks for the info. jgreenewv and gunner76. The website was very informative about the Neusiok trail. Looking forward to my visit, and possibly living in that area. I'm also looking at Wilmington as another option, as a musician who likes to busk on the streets, they seem to welcome street performers.

That's awesome, Phil. What kind of music do you usually perform?
