    Hanging in UK

    Hi all,

    thanks for the add!
I am currently in the UK and have been a wild camper for some while. Always a ground dweller till recently. I did spend some time in my younger years as a hammock lounger but never really moved on to this as a camping thing till just now. I embarked with a cheap eBay "tropical" hammock and despite its tiny size ( 2.2 x 1.2 ) I kinda liked it. I am now looking at a one off upgrade. In the uk we are restricted to what we can buy really. Looking at US market.
I do most of my camps in the winter- which is like the summer here anyways. Mostly in Scotland.
looking forward to being on here and advice I may gain

    Cheers

Welcome and enjoy the new camping experience.

A couple years ago I visited Stone Hedge when traveling to Titchfield.

Looked like a great spot to hang? - - - Just kidding. .

    Cheers guys!
So I committed to a rather nice WBRR+SD+SF and 3 season Lynx. Eagerly waiting now! ( I also went a bit mad and got a lot of Dutch gear ) ( then made another order for more) So I hope to get out in it when I get the stuff - planning a trip in Jan in south west UK.
I can't thank this forum and Brandon / Dutch enough for the massive help in getting stuff together!!! - Just had a trip in Scotland ground dwelling....my mate had a pole fail in a blizzard.....so i think that was a sign! I think I mty have convinced my mate get up off the ground too!

Welcome! Bigdubby, I plan to visit the British Isles in the next couple of years and wonder how hammock-sessible it is there. I like stealth camping, either I pull my car over in the National Forest (U.S.A.) legal, or just off anywhere-probably not. In Japan, I got to where I'd roll out my bivy just about anywhere. (My favorite was 10,000 feet in blowing rain, I had a wind block, but it was wonderful.) In Britain, watching episodes of Time Team, there seems to be lots of little forested strips and clumps along the roads and rural areas. Do campers quietly set-up, no fires, no noise, no bacchanalias, outside of 'designated areas'? And if not, how soon are you going to begin pushing the limit to find out? I'll go for your bail at least once....
I do look forward to Scotland, and winter camping. I don't know if this helps, but I opened an Amazon UK account so I could buy a couple of books. The shipping costs weren't at all bad. Hammocks are very light weight. I just bought a hammock kit from Rip Stop by the Roll, less than 800 grams.
