    Fronkey style winter covers

So here’s my latest diy craze
Wanted to try to duplicate my chameleon winter cover on my cheap
    1:00$ a yard Walmart nylon
Made 3 11 foot hammocks and then I made 2 winter covers
They just go over the ridgeline and have a shock cord on the bottom which runs through a channel I sewed
Was inspired by a guy named “ cryptic cricket” who has a cheap bugnet diy YouTube video

That looks great! I was thinking about the plausibility of a fronkey winter cover the other day.

Did you use only one width of fabric?

    Any concerns about condensation?

How was the comfort with the cover installed? Feel constricted at all?

Yes 1 width did the trick
Got stuffy in it 1 warm night
Gonna make a small vent hole the I can open or keep closed

I like this for the wind break also and privacy

someone did this with a second 11' hammock and some elastic cordage. I like this idea like a hanging bivy. Get in and sleep. No stakes or tarp fiddling. add a tent window and insulation and it's perfect!!

What width did that fabric end up being? Our walmart doesn't carry any.

How was it with the underquilt. How would you use it? I love the idea of this and would like one but only if I can still use my underquilt

Great DIY project - thank-you for sharing it.
FYI, this link shows how Hennessy does there overcover breath hole - you might want to locate your vent right over your head when sleeping: https://hennessyhammock.com/products/overcover-1
I've used/experimented with this HH overcover in cold weather and it did pretty well at keeping the head end ventilated/condensation free, but my foot end got some condensation when it was below freezing/no wind. I measured temps and the foot end was about 10F colder than the head end - thus head end was above the interior dew point (95% humidity) and the foot end was at the dew point (100% humidity). No way around this when your head/breath is inside a cover (that I could determine).
Have fun and please post your cold weather results this winter.

It works well with both my underquilts
I found it easier to put winter cover on first then the underquilt
Works great just needs a minute or so to tweak it to your lay
Here’s a simple sketch of it
All my hammocks are 11 footers so they all work with it
Cost was 3 bucks for fabric and a couple bucks for shockcord
Will post vent hole pics soon when I get to it soon

Very nice, definitely better than a whole sock which is the route I went when doing my DIY a while back. I was in a rush though (excuses excuses).
    hang well

Thats awesome that its worked out so well for you.

I think Sgt. Rock and a few others did a hug style overcover a while back. I'll see if I can find the link. Always wanted to try and make one, but haven't had a chance to make one yet.
