I also had bear spray out and on the ready and never got too close!

I felt it was safe enough at that distance - like 40-50 yds

Spray was out on the ready too

Hey, at least you had the spray. Last one I ran into I wasn't carrying and protection and my knees started to buckle. First time I've experienced this.

Now that I got this close - the spray felt nice to have - extra 8 oz though

To be honest - I would not have been carrying it but for my internal fear of my wife getting mauled and me surviving it

I know - sounds weird - I would be very guilt riddled - but wow are these attacks rare - if it were just me I would weigh 8oz less and roll the dice

That was a pretty big and non-plussed bear. Also I love millidedes too.
Nice that your wife likes to go.
Fall is a right goodie of a time to be out.

More scary was (and I didn't get video or photos of this) - I saw a cub pop across the trail 1 hour before that - pretty far away - like 75 yards - it heard us the took off and was gone.

We waited around for a bit and made some noise - then went forward and saw no baby or mamma

Very nice, I’m hoping my wife will go now that the weather has cooled off. You know the story “I️ hate snakes and bugs”
