New hanger from Pennsylvania, I've used a hammock for a few years, but I never really backpacked much. I typically do car camping and use a regular cheap jungle hammock with an industrial tarp that you would cover a wood pile with. Used basic knots that were hard to untie, and ultimately was just trying to stay off the ground because I always get wet in a tent. About a month or two ago, I really started to notice the problems with my system. I had water dripping down my line and wicking into my hammock. I was soaked, but not as much as the people in tents . When I got home and aired out all my gear, I looked up a video on water breaks. I discovered a few videos and it eventually led me to hammock knots where I discovered several helpful slip knots. The path of hammocks continued, until I was led to insulation, and bug nets, and better hammocks. I ultimately decided to buy basically a whole new set of relatively cheap gear based on a few different reviews and eventually I was led to Shug's channel, where I learned a whole lot more about hammocks and backpacking in general, and shug led me here, where I joined a few days ago.
