    On the opposite side of the river from the falls at the bend is one of my all time favorite campsites. Unless we get some rain the falls are probably pretty sorry right now.

    My son and I did a winter backpacking trip to the Mark Twain National Forest. We did the Big Piney Trail loop in the Paddy Creek Wilderness area.

    Roby, MO is a good put-in spot. You can park your car at the lake and walk about a mile to the trailhead. Then you have the option of either going east or west on the loop.

    I also second the recommendation to the Buffalo National River area in northwest Arkansas. Have been there many times and there is still lots to explore.
