FL -- Myakka State Forest in late October

Well, in a fit of post-Irma optimism, I booked a site for Friday, Oct. 20 and Sat. Oct. 21 in Myakka State Forest http://www.freshfromflorida.com/Divi...a-State-Forest (as opposed to Myakka River State Park). They are currently closed (flooding, duh) but I'll check as that date gets nearer to see what they say about the trails and sites. Might just be too mucky still by then, but I can always cancel.

I'm hoping that in the next 4-5 weeks things will have drained enough--presuming that the rainy season starts to let up. I'm new here so I'm still figuring all this out!

I might book a more inland site as a back up.

Gee, too bad I'll be away on those dates. My kitchen window overlooks the E. River Road entrance to the Myakka State Forest. It would have been nice to meet some people from this forum. Oh well, at least I hope it will be cool enough for camping by October 20th. Have fun!

I can't make it, but hopefully you'll have a great turnout. Don't worry about the muck... we're in hammocks.... above the muck.

A couple years ago, we had a hang down in Frostproof and the whole camp was a river due to rain. I almost caught a crayfish in camp.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

Eh, I'm not even trying to plan for a group on this one. Going solo. My schedule is so erratic I never know when I have to cancel!

Through Reserve America, for 2 nights:

    USE FEE: $ 17.86
    TRANSACTION FEE: $ 6.70
    SARASOTA BED TAX: $ 0.89
    SARASOTA COUNTY TAX: $ 0.18
    STATE TAX: $ 1.07
    TOTAL: $ 26.70

I think I need to get a vehicle sticker too for the state forest system....

WTH with a "bed tax." It's a hammock, dang it. Should I request that $0.89 back?

Ha! We're lucky to only pay that.

Is there a better bed than a hammock? I think not.
