Warbonnet Blackbird XLC - carabiners needed?

Warbonnet makes several mentions on their website that you need carabiners for the Blackbird XLC (with whoopie slings). I was trying to think of ways to lighten my backpack and one of the things is the carabiners. I thought about getting lightweight carabiners but then I figured, why take carabiners at all? I can just adjust the whoopie slings properly and then tie them directly to the treehuggers. Is there anything terribly wrong about this?

The two easiest, no-hardware ways to connect your tree huggers to your whoopie slings are:

    1. Marlin Spike Hitch (using a stick you pick up from the ground as the toggle to reduce weight), and
    2. Beckett Hitch

    No need for carabiners.

These may be right up your alley....https://dutchwaregear.com/titanium-dutch-clips.html
I use them on all mine and they weigh almost nothing.
    Carry forth.

I use the Dutch Clips on just about all my hammocks ( including my BB's ). Since the clips are attached to the straps is almost impossible to forget them and leave them behind.

No knots required. Just wrap strap around the tree and run thru the clip and you are done.

Thanks guys. I think I'll try the Becket Hitch, very easy knot and no additional materials needed! And if I do the knot with the tree hugger into the loop of the whoopie sling, the whoopie sling will still work as well. I'll first test it out carefully.

It works great. Very easy and quick. I'm ditching the carabiners. No need for the carabiners or any type of hooks or clips. Thanks for the suggestions.

If you use a marlin spike you do not need carabiners!
