    Newbie hanging out.

    Hi all.

I'm a newbie to hammock camping who is looking forward to learning from you all and teaching what little I know.

I'm going the cheap but good route. I bought a Bear Butt hammock with Bear Butt straps (I'm a big and tall guy), and love it. I have a DD 3x3 and am looking forward to trying that out as well. I plan to buy a Bear Butt bugnet, and I should be good at this point. I have an Outdoor Vitals MummyPod on order (I plan to fold over the sides of the hammock if it is too large), but during ths summer I plan to do the pad and Reflectix thing until the Pod arrives.

While I'm working on losing weight, I plan to go car camping with it, hooking it between my Prius and a tree because I need the Prius' generator for my CPAP.

I was wondering if any of you guys are around Havertown, PA (Delco)?

Welcome from Utah! Cheap is okay. My first gear was a Costco hammock, and a $10(!!) tarp from Amazon; sleeping bags for top and bottom insulation.

There are several of us who use CPAP as well, and some have figured out some pretty serviceable ways to use a CPAP in conjunction with hammock camping. You can do a site search for CPAP and get several threads in the results.

Have a great time out there!

Welcome from Northern Arkansas! Cheap got a lot of us started, but be warned, upgrading gets addictive! Enjoy the hang!

Just had my first night of Hamic camping at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, A raptor sanctuary in New Ringgold, Pennsylvania.

No more sleeping on the ground like an animal.

Ain't nothing wrong with inexpensive. 97% of my gear is military surplus. That's where you get into the fun of upgrading. It's possible to start with a Yugo and end up with a Ferrari! Lol

Welcome, this is a great place to learn and get ideas, and if you can make a group hang thats one of the best ways to check out other types of gear.

I put this in another topic, but I wanted to report on my first night.

No longer will I sleep on the ground like an animal.

Here's a description of how I set it up for a CPAP.
