    Bug net for dogs???

Does anyone know if there is a bug net set up for dogs when they are lounging at camp?
My pooch had several skeeter bites last time I camped with her. I know you aren't supposed to use human bug repellent but is there an effective safe repellent for dogs. I don't want her getting bit up and also don't want to be putting toxins on her.

Here is the single best product around for hammocking with your pup. See my review here. Inspired by others DIY pictures, i helped Cave Creek with the idea and design and they built it to perfection.

OK, so what about those of us who already have a bug net on our Hammocks?

Does anyone know of a screen system for just the dog?

My GF and I are looking for something the covers the dog and her bed/pad and can somehow hang under the tarp from a continuous ridgeline or something.

75 pound dog and we would like to have her right under one of our heads.

Someone must have done something like this before.

    Thanks,

Since I just switched from a gathered end to a bridge (and now can't sleep in anything else) I had to give up the style setup Gbrugs mentioned and go with a completely separate shelter for the dog. I started with a Tarptent Sidecar which is meant for dogs or children to sleep in the vestibule of a Stratospire 2. I put it right next to the head end of the ridgerunner and ran a line up to my ridgeline tieout to support it (along with staking it out obviously). It worked great except was a little tight for my shepherd and since all mesh, a little exposed since I've given up on doors for my tarp. Even getting a longer tarp I've discovered I just hate doors and messing with them. So I had John at Bear Paw Wilderness Designs make up a mini version of one of his net tent designs that would give her a little more room so she could hang out in it comfortably if the bugs were bad and needed an escape. Then I had him do the rear and side walls in ripstop so she had three sides of protection from wind or any rain that is blown in since she is setup between my Ridge Runner head end and the tarp opening. Also I ended up upgrading my tarp from the Cloudburst so I had HG sew in a d ring to mimic the interior net tie out on the cloudburst so it not only supports my net but also the dogs shelter.

Thank you Alifeoutdoors, You have given me much to consider.

    Two questions.

Is the dog able to enter/exit the shelter on it's own?

    Do you have a picture?

No problem. She is my constant hiking companion and buddy so I spend a lot of time thinking about how to make her comfortable.

There is a door tie back that will hold the door open for her. Doesn't help for the bug season, but she likes to hang out in her "shelters" (the primal instinct?). She'll often be in bed way before I am lol. No I haven't had a chance to get a shot of it yet but next time I'm out I'll try to remember.

I have a kids tent from Wallymart. It's a leftover from when my kids were little, but it's perfect for my ShephardX. Gives him just enough for rain, wind and his own space. A zip up door gives me some confidence that he won't just tear through bug mesh. I know it's no stronger, I just feel like my dog won't try to tear through something that he can't see through.

You can use a cap full of 'Skin So Soft' in a gallon of water and before your trip coat the pooch. It helps with fleas and bugs in general and is good for the skin/coat. We did it at the vet all the time. Just put them in the tub (or equivalent) and keep pouring the solution over them several times.

Can't help with the bug net part.

I use Permethrin, and they're never an issue. Spray his coat down before we go, no matter how bad they get he's always fine.

It's safe on dogs (not cats). Make sure it's .5% or diluted to it.
