    Buffalo NR, Manistee, Somewhere Else?

I'd like to plan a multi-day kayaking trip with my ~70 year old dad for three or four days at the very end of July/beginning of August. We normally float the Buffalo National River in Arkansas, but earlier in May or June, and I'm a bit worried about water levels and heat; in addition, I don't recall the tree availability for hammocking lower on the river (though I'd imagine we'd be fine if we walked into the woods a bit?). I've see excellent reviews of the Manistee in Michigan, and I'm wondering if it would be a better choice given that it's north rather than south from our origin in central Indiana. We don't mind swimming in the river to cool off though, so perhaps the Buffalo is a fine choice? Thoughts on these options or other options within a day's drive would be most welcome.

Water levels will usually be low that time of year. And it will be HOT and BUGGY!!! I would wait till October thru May.

Glad to see this thread get awoken. A group of friends are planning a last minute mid-October float on the Buffalo. I've never floated the mid or lower sections of the river, only the upper sections and only in the very early spring.
Is there still tree availability lower on the river, suitable for hanging?
From what I gather, this will be a much tamer section of the river. Thoughts on it being suitable for a first time kayker? I've plenty of years experience in canoes, but have been thinking about picking up kayaking for quite some time.
